Golden hour is such a magical time of the day – this is the short period of time after sunrise and before sunset. As the sun rises or sets – golden hour comes, covering the entire world in a warm golden blanket of light. Golden hour helps to turn even the most dull backgrounds into something otherworldly.
Scheduling golden hour portrait time in to your wedding timeline is incredibly important. It gives you and your photographer the chance to create some exceptional images.

The Perfect Light
For photographers, lighting is EVERYTHING! We are always looking for the best lighting scenario to make your photos the best they can be. Golden hour is quite literally mother natures beauty filter. It just makes everything so stunning. The soft light that you get during this time of day makes it nearly impossible to take a bad photo. You don’t need to be a photographer to see the beauty that golden hour provides either. Who doesn’t love a good sunset or sunrise?
Additional Portrait Time
Giving yourself time to get additional portraits at Golden Hour is a great way to ensure you get all the photos you absolutely want. Not to mention these are definitely going to be the ones you show your friends and family.
Wedding days can be really busy and go by incredibly fast, so giving yourself an extra chance to get more photos is a must.
Additionally, most photographers are focused on getting the standard wedding photos that you see in most galleries. However, this doesn’t leave a lot of time to be creative. Offering your photographer extra portrait time will give them the opportunity to do more fun and creative poses and prompts.
Back-up Portraits
No one wants to think about inclement weather on their wedding day, but it’s always good to have a back-up plan. Golden hour is a great time a great back-up plan for portraits. Not only is it the perfect time of day to get that beautiful light, it’s usually after the hubbub of the ceremony and cocktail hour.
Although, I highly recommend making golden hour an additional part of the timeline, and not just using it for all your portraits.

Like I mentioned above, wedding days are hectic and they don’t allow for much alone time for you and your new spouse. Golden hour usually takes place either during cocktail hour or the reception, allowing you to sneak away from your guests for a bit. This is also one of the most romantic and intimate times of the day. Taking this time allows you to soak in the events of the day and get some extra kisses in while your at it.
