So you’re getting married, and you don’t need an engagement session…
Maybe you’ve been together for years and have plenty of photos already, or your family member is a photographer and has already done engagement photos for you.
The truth is, you don’t NEED engagement photos. However, doing a session with your photographer before your wedding is beneficial in so many ways. Let me point out the most beneficial reasons in my opinion!
Comfortability with taking photos. Getting in front of the camera helps you become more comfortable with it. Most (including myself) say they feel awkward or nervous taking photos. Doing a session before can reassure you that it’s not so bad.
Getting to know your photographer through email won’t be the same as in person. Your photographer will be with you 90% of your wedding day – highly recommend getting to know them! and I can promise if your photographer is anything like me, they WANT to get to know you more as well.
What to expect.. In my opinion this is the most important. Even if you’ve had sessions with other photographers or think you know what to expect. Each photographer is different. We all communicate, direct, and “pose” differently. Having a session prior helps you know exactly what to expect on your wedding day.
Documenting this time.. You’ll be married for the rest of your lives and you’re only engaged for a short period of time. Don’t do your engagement session just for the “save the date” or the invitations. Consider doing it because this time in your lives will only happen once, and celebrating this time is important.
You don’t want your wedding day to be your first experience with your photographer and documenting this time is so important – even if you’ve been engaged for years! To sum it up, do the session. I promise it will be worth it and your wedding photos will come so much more natural and there’s no possible way you can regret doing the session!
